Tari Cakalele Banda

The Banda Islands (Indonesian: Kepulauan Banda) are a volcanic group of ten small volcanic islands in the Banda Sea, about 140km south of Seram island and about 2000km east of Java, and are part of the Indonesian province of Maluku. The main town and administrative centre is Bandanaira, located on the island of the same name. They rise out of 4-6 km deep ocean and have a total land area of approximately 180 km². They have a population of about 15,000. Until the mid 19th century the Banda Islands were the world's only source of the spices nutmeg and mace, produced from the nutmeg tree. The islands are also popular destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling."

Cakalele adalah tarian perang yang berasal dari daerah Maluku. Demikian juga di kepilauan Banda, namun cakalele yang ada di kepulauan Banda berbeda dengan cakalele daerah lainnya di Maluku.

Tarian cakalele Banda terdiri dari lima orang penari yang semua penarinya adalah laki-laki. Penari yang ada di tengah-tengah adalah Hulubalang yang mewakili Orang Kaya Banda (orang-orang yang merupakan pemimpin masyarakat Banda, seperti kepala desa, ketua adat dan imam) yang telah di bunuh oleh VOC.

Dua orang penari yang memegang tombak dan mengenakan kapsete (topi tembaga milik tentera Spanyol dan Portugis yang berhasil dikalahkan oleh pasukan perang Banda) di kepala, disebut Kapitan. Kapitan adalah pemimpin perang, yang mana Kapitan sebelah kanan adalah Kapitan yang menguasai laut dan yang sebelah kiri adalah Kapitan yang menguasai darat.

Dua orang penari lainnya adalah Malesi yang memegang parang dan perisai. Malesi adalah ciri khas prajurit perang Banda Naira jaman dulu. Di kepala Malesi, dikenakan penutup kepala yang mirip dengan kupiah.

Tarian cakalele Banda dimainkan dengan diiringi suara tifa dan gong yang dipadukan menjadi satu. ditambah pula dengan sorak-sorai para penonton yang merupakan perwujudan dari semangat masyarakat untuk menyemangati para pejuangnya yang berperang demi kedamaian tanah air mereka.

Tarian Cakalele kini dapat dinikmati ketika kunjungan para tamu besar, seperti menteri dan lainnya. atau juga tarian caklele ini akan dimainkan pada saat ada acara adat.
